Serratia Marcescens Infection Complicating Peritoneal Dialysis.

چکیده
Serratia marcescens (Chromobacterium prodigiosum) is a freeliving saprophyte generally regarded as being non-pathogenic (Wilson and Miles, 1955). There is, however, reason to believe that under certain conditions this organism may be pathogenic. Three instances are here reported in which S. marcescens infection of the peritoneum occurred during peritoneal dialysis for acute renal failure. All three patients were transferred to Princess Mary's Royal Air Force Hospital, Halton, for managemnent of their renal failure.

Serratia marcescens Peritonitis in a Diabetic Patient Receiving Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis
We report a case of Serratia marcescens peritonitis in a 45-year-old man with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD). The patient presented with abdominal pain and cloudy dialysate. Empiric antibiotic therapy was initiated intraperitoneally with cefazolin and ceftazidime for 5 days. Cultures of the dialysate revealed S. marcescens, and th...
متن کاملEpidemic outbreak of Serratia marcescens infection in a cardiac surgery unit.
Between 2 February and 16 April 1985, an outbreak of Serratia marcescens infection involving 10 male patients occurred in a cardiac surgery unit. All the patients had surgical wound infection, five also had osteomyelitis (four sternal, one costal), and another had peritonitis secondary to peritoneal dialysis. Three patients had concomitant bacteremia. All Serratia strains isolated produced a ch...
متن کاملDraft Genome Sequence of a Multidrug-Resistant Serratia marcescens Strain, Isolated from a Patient with Peritoneal Cancer in South Africa
We report here the draft genome sequence of Serratia marcescens ML2637, isolated from a South African pediatric patient in the intensive care unit with peritoneal cancer. The genome comprised 5,718,350 bp, with a 59.1% G+C content. There were 5,594 predicted genes, including 5,301 protein-coding genes, 199 pseudogenes, and 94 RNA genes.
متن کاملSerratia Marcescens, An Opportunistic Gram Negative Infection In Cardiac Valve Surgery
Serratia marcescens (S.M) is a species of gram–negative bacteria in the family enterobacteriaceae. A human pathogen, S. marcescens is involved in nosocomial infections, particularly in urinary tract and wound infections. This report describes a 63 years-old man that referred to hospital with dyspnea FC IV and he underwent cardiac valves replacement surgery with a diagnosis...
متن کاملTechnique survival with Serratia peritonitis.
Despite a decreasing incidence, peritonitis remains an important cause of peritoneal dialysis (PD) technique failure and transfer to hemodialysis. Infection with Serratia spp. has been suggested to be associated with a poor technique outcome in PD. We examined the data at our center to see if patients with Serratia peritonitis had a similar poor outcome. In this retrospective study, we reviewed...
